Here are my top tips on how you can buy a Lydie. As a case study, I'll be taking a deep dive into Benoula, a 1985 Rouge H Boxcalf Lydie with stamp Circle O.
The first thing to look for is the clasp:
This type of lock system can break very very easily.
This little pointy part has to catch on the little mouth inside there that will clasp like this:
Now this catch actually breaks very very easily.
The second area I always like to check is the strap:
You can actually undo the button and then your Lydie turns from a shoulder bag into a clutch. I always like to check this area because you're asking a lot from the poor little hole over there. It won't be perfect but you just want to make sure it's in good working condition and that's it.
Otherwise - the Lydie is a really simple silhouette, really simply constructed bag. If you ask me, not many places can go wrong.
It is a beautiful bag, a really fun way to get different colorways and a great starter bag for vintage Hermès because it's so signature and you also get that beautiful large swatch of box leather which I personally am a huge fan of.
