So I'm kind of ready to declare my love, for box calf, that is. It might seem like an unlikely romance, a material once reserved for men's formal dress shoes now being used for my most treasured bag. Perhaps it is my inherent desire for things to be minimalist, simplistic, and made as closely as possible to its raw original form.

And maybe it is this reason that I find myself constantly drawn to the richness of that box calf hide and that absolutely delicious high polish finish. There's another reason though. Box calf bags have an inherently very interesting provenance.
All of the box from Hermes comes from Tanneries d'Annonay. It's a lineage that is so precise that it feels almost poetic. The same air, the same hands, and the same leathers that connect generations of Kelly owners across time.
And in a world that is always looking for reasons to fracture, there are actually connections with strangers found in our everyday moments.
