We love our vintage handbags. When it comes to dust bags, old isn't always a good thing.
Do you know the number one vintage Chanel handbag killer? You might think it's going to be sharp nails or something like mold or improper storage.
Nope.
One of the most common ways we see bags get damaged is... via an original vintage dust bag. We're talking about this one:
In the example above, the dust bag has its logo tucked into the center and rolled up with only the soft felt being exposed to leather.
But let's take a look here:
A case of flaky ink
Do you see what's happening here? Specifically, with the little dangly bit in the center of the logo, right around the interlocking CCs:
This is ink. Sticky ink. That could very easily transfer itself onto your delicate lambskin bag. Forcefully peeling it off might remove the top layer of your lambskin bag's finish as well.
If that happens—once you have permeated the outer skin of the leather—the only solution is add finish to it or recolor it. Neither of which is ideal.
You don't want to ruin this type of PERFECTION:
So what's the solution?
If your original vintage dust bag is flaking, put it aside in a drawer, far away from your precious lambskin Chanel bag. Stick to a generic dust bag made of a breathable material.
